Will Aaron Rodgers do Anything?

That is the million dollar question in Green Bay and the unfortunate thing is that no one will have an answer.  Could he be the next Steve Young following in another legends footsteps?  Maybe.  Or could he be a punchline that you may use to insult one of your friends five years down the road?  We'll see.  We don't really know and neither does Aaron.  He can say that he feels confident in the system.  McCarthy and Thompson can preach all they want about his leadership qualities.  But the bottom line is that NFL quarterbacks are based on production.  And not only is it ok for a player to produce well.  They must produce a Super Bowl.  Just like the guy before Rodgers who had to prove his own credibility by winning a Superbowl.

Let's say a quarterback is 9-7.  That is an above average job.  In any other profession, you will keep your job at that rate.  Most jobs require a lot less production than that. But NFL quarterback is on its own rating scale.  If you don't win a Super Bowl, you will never get that nod as being a great quarterback.  You can even go to the Super Bowl, but if you don't win, you get the "Can't make it in a big game" label.  Peyton Manning went through that for years, but what more do you want out of the guy?   Compared to his competiton, he seemed pretty good.

It seems that people are so quick to judge the quarterback, it's becoming ridiculous.  Unless the quarterback wins a Superbowl, he is not accomplished?  Does everyone understand how hard that is?  In regards to the analogy of a real job, unless you are a CEO of Fortune 500 company, you are underperforming.  I know they get paid millions and yada yada yada, but it is an issue of unrealisitc and unfair expectations.  Nonetheless, it is the bar at which we rate our star position in our star sport.  I just pity Aaron Rodgers for the future naysaying comments he will receive.  Because unless he wins a Superbowl, he will never amount to a "good enough" quarterback for the Packers.
