Week Three Predictions posted on 09/19/2008
It’s a good thing no one reads my blog, otherwise it’d be pretty embarrassing for people to see just how bad my picks were last week (8-7). Hopefully I’ll do better this week, especially when you consider it’d be difficult to be much worse.
Kansas City at Atlanta: Clearly not the most highly anticipated match up of the week. Can KC get their first win of the season? I think so. I’m taking the Chiefs
Oakland at Buffalo: Oakland looked much improved last week and McFadden had himself quite a game. Still, I think Buffalo’s the real deal this year. Bills win this one.
Cincinnati at New York Giants: The only real question going into this game is will the Palmer finally throw a TD pass? Who wins this game is not in doubt… Giants take it with ease.

The Business of Replacing a Legend posted on 09/15/2008
I can still remember the day the Packers traded for Brett Favre. I remember being mostly angry that we’d sent a first round draft pick to the Falcons for a guy whose name I couldn’t pronounce that they’d drafted in the second round last year. What the hell was this Ron Wolf guy thinking? It was dumb moves like this that was the reason why the Packers had been a joke for so long.
At the time how was I supposed to know that this Brett ‘Favor’ guy (that’s how I, like most people, pronounced it that fateful day) would quite literally save a franchise? How was I supposed to know that I we’d just traded for what would turn out to be the greatest quarterback of all time in terms or records? How was I supposed to know that he was going to be my favorite player to ever play the game?

Tennessee at Cincinnati: I just don’t see how the Bengals can be ‘that bad’ two weeks in a row. Factor in that Kerry Collins will be playing for the injured Vince Young and this one figures to be a Bengals win.
Buffalo at Jacksonville: I think Buffalo is better than most people give them credit for. They may even be good enough to win a suddenly mediocre AFC East (without Tom Brady). Still, as improved as they are, I still like Jacksonville in a close, low scoring game.
Oakland at Kansas City: You had to almost feel bad for the Raiders opening up on Monday Night Football and looking barely good enough to be playing on a Friday night, if you know what I mean. KC wins this game easily.
Indianapolis at Minnesota: Perhaps the most intriguing game of the week. The Colts looked bad in the opener while the Vikings looked a quarterback shy of a really good team. In this one I see Adrian Peterson having a big day and the Colts start the season 0-2

Week One Thoughts posted on 09/09/2008
AFC ‘power teams’ have a power outage:
So how many people outside of Illinois and The Carolinas had the Panthers and Bears winning this weekend in their pick’em league? Anyone? Wasn’t this the year we were finally going to see the Chargers live up to expectations and make it to the Super Bowl? Of course last year they also got off to a rough 1-3 start before making it to the AFC Championship game. And at least they were in their game, unlike the Colts who got handled by the Bears in their new stadium. Speaking of the Colts new stadium… Lucas Oil Stadium? Congratulations on the worst named stadium in sports. I don’t know about anyone else, but I can’t stand companies sticking their names on stadiums. Don’t get me wrong, I understand the large sums of money involved in naming rights, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.

The Football Gods posted on 09/08/2008
During the week leading up to the 2008 NFC Championship game the idea that there was such a thing as ‘Football Gods’ didn’t seem like such a far fetched idea to me. I mean here was my hero, Brett Favre, probably in his last NFL season, a mere one win away from the Super Bowl. The only thing standing in his way was the New York Giants in Lambeau Field in the freezing cold.
To me, victory over the Giants was little more than a formality. Surely the football gods were looking down and plotting the best way for Favre’s legendary career to come to an end. Could there be a better script than what was being set up? In the last game of his legendary career Favre would face Tom Brady and the seemingly undefeatable New England Patriots. If anyone had any doubts about Favre being one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time a win in this Super Bowl would silence any doubters. It would be his final masterpiece, and no doubt one of the most talked about Super Bowls that would ever be played.
