DirectTV NFL Sunday Ticket and the Green Bay Packers

If you aren’t from the Green Bay area and you are a packers fan, then there is no doubt you have the DirectTV NFL Sunday Ticket. With season tickets only available on a multiple year waiting list, DirectTV offers the only way to view all the games if you are outside of the blackout area. Most fans are anxiously waiting to see where this post Favre era of football will take them.

The Green Bay Packers played very well in 2007, finishing the season with a 13-3 record. As they head into their 90th year, changes are on the way. They are losing quarterback Brett Favre to retirement, who has been with the team ever since 1992. They also lost Rob Davis to retirement. Furthermore the team released four major players in Koren Robinson, Joe Toledo (who had less than three months in his Packers career), Bubba Franks and Carlyle Holiday, and said farewell to Corey Williams, Frank Walker and Ryan Krause as they joined other teams.

The team did sign some established talent such as Thomas Gafford, Brandon Chillar, Taj Smith, Jake Allen, Rod Harper, Ken DeBauche, Kregg Lumpkin, Marcus Riley, Mike Peterson, Joey Haynos, J. J. Jansen, Danny Lansanah and Brennan Carvalho, along with four others. The 2008 NFL Draft also had some exciting news for Packers fans and wide receiver Jordy Nelson from Kansas State was the first pick. Nelson would be joined by Brett Swain as a wide receiver, along with two new quarterbacks in Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn. However, it’s likely that Aaron Rodgers will be the starting quarterback this season, as he has been performing exceptionally in recent years, completing 20 successful passes out of 28 in the previous year.

The only fault that one could find with the Green Bay Packers is the team’s defense. They did draft defensive end Jeremy Thompson but that may not be enough to halt off strong offenses from teams like Dallas, whom they play on September 21, 2008, or the Indianapolis Colts whom they play on October 19, 2008. The schedule for the Green Bay Packers appears tough, but look at the facts! Finishing up 13-3 last season, they actually played better than eventual Super Bowl winner The New York Giants, who finished 10-6.
